What an amazing brother/son we have! Each day he continues to amaze me with how well he's doing! Uncle Joel spent the day with him, going through therapy! Both of them seemed to enjoy their time together! He got to go outside this afternoon and do his PT on the sidewalk! He's wanted to walk around outside for days now and he finally got to do it today! The staff on the rehab floor have been absolutely wonderful! Adam jokes with them and teases them every chance he gets. And everything is always followed by a "please" or "thank you." Him and Joel got some Bdubs for lunch. And then when I was out and about, I saw a Dairy Queen so they got DQ too! He might have a few pounds to drop after leaving the hospital!! Ha! This afternoon I saw the most improvement in him, he was quick as a whistle on his thoughts and his speak is so much quicker than it was. It was pretty slow before. Now he sounds just like "our" Adam! WOW! God really is great, isn't He?! He was telling the nurses tonight all about making traffic stops and doing his job as a Reserve! And Dad said he was correct on what he was saying too! His memory is getting better as well. He's finally starting to remember some of the short term things! Praise God! And he's bored, and ready to go back to work, and ready to get out of the hospital! He's got a little over two weeks left as long as everything goes good! He'll be done in no time, even though I know it doesn't feel that way to him! He was able to get online tonight and check his facebook and reply to people! He's definitely getting there! He would never have come this far without people who have been praying, so thank you! Thanks for all the visits and thank you Joel for spending the day with him!

An Easter Blessing...
Adam seemed to be more rested and less anxious today. His thinking was a little clearer today and he was very polite. Not that he was/has ever been really rude, but seems to have picked up some extra manners along the way. He got to see Luke (his dog) today. Luke was very well behaved (Adam taught him that, and taught him well) and was at the hospital for 4 1/2 hours! He also got to spend some of the afternoon with the apple of his eye, Miss Sadie Cakes! They spent about a hour and a half outside in the nice Easter weather. After work tonight I went over to see him and we played some tic-tac-toe and started a game of chess (which Dad and him had to teach me) before Adam got tired and was ready for bed. Our cousin Rhiannon put it well today when she said, "What an Easter Blessing to have him with us." We are so very grateful! I never would have thought a little over two weeks ago that we would be spending Easter at Parkview Hospital, but how grateful I am that he's still here with us! God is good all the time, all the time, God is good! I hope that everyone had a blessed Easter and got to spend it the people they love! Photos to come tomorrow!

Happy Easter!
Wow, Easter already! I was at work today and someone said, how long has it been since his accident. I said two weeks today, but it feels like a month! In two weeks time he's made huge strides to recover and I'm so proud of him and his determination! One never realizes the amazing people they have in their life until something like this happens and now I know how truly amazing my brother is! They gave his some meds last night to help slow his brain down a bit to rejuvenate him. Apparently they worked because he slept well last night. He had therapy this morning and then had the afternoon off. I wasn't there today, but I heard he had his share of visitors again! Dad said he thinks that he's even improved since yesterday and said he feels that he's "sharper" than before. So it's coming, little by little! He obviously knows how to reason because when Dad put him to bed tonight, he said "Can you please leave a hole (in the zipper of his bed) so that I can get my fingers out?" What a sneaky boy! Of course Dad said no. Adam then said, "what am I supposed to do if I need to pee?" Dad said, push your button and if you forget which one to push, push them all." Adam said, "Ok." Keep praying for that brain of his and for that swelling to decrease! He's doing wonderful! Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers!

Come Get Me!
So today started with a phone call from Adam! The phone rang at about a quarter til 8 this morning. I picked it up not knowing who it was, and I hear "Carrie, come get me out of here, I'm going nuts. They won't let me do anything. They keep me in a cage!" Apparently he doesn't like his "cage" of a bed and tried getting out of there this morning! He caught on! Was so glad to hear his voice, but it was so unexpected! But great all the same! His therapy went well again today. Dad thinks his memory is getting a little better and I agree. He seems to remember more stuff, but still has some issues remembering other things. Late this evening Dad and I rolled him outside with Miss Sadie and he got to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. I think it was good for him to just get out the walls of the hospital. I think it did him some good. When we came back in, we were greeted by more visitors and some great food that Shannon and Joey Herron made for our family! Thanks so much guys! The food was WONDERFUL! I need recipes! Sadie and I stayed until about 8 pm tonight and then I took her home. Adam asked if he could come with me at first and I told him no, not til the doctors say. Then he asked if I was coming back tonight, :-( Made me sad. Unfortunately, I have to work 12 hours tomorrow, so my patients will probably thank me for the sleep I'll get! Still broke my heart to tell him no. He said, "Well what am I going to do. I'll be bored." He must be getting better, right? He's doing wonderful everyone and it's because of the prayers of so many people. People we probably don't even know who have been praying for us. THANK YOU! You will never know how much everything means to us! The cards, prayers, meals, visits, all of it. It means the world! I'm leaving you with a family photo tonight! Thanks all!

Day 2 of Rehab
We think that the night went well with Adam in his "new bed." It has a netting around the bed so that it can keep him in! So we're pretty sure that he slept well and behaved last night. He had another full day of therapy and must have been a bit tired because he did nap a few times in between therapies. His balance is getting a lot better! He sometimes forgets to pay attention to what he is doing and that's when he starts getting unsteady. Otherwise though, he is doing wonderful. He was joking around with his therapists today, the normal Adam! Mom came in tonight and asked what was new, and I looked at Adam and said, "What's new?" He replied..."I want to go home." Big surprise there! He was also pretty obsessed with Bdubs tonight, so Bdubs has been promised to him! He's going to be spoiled by the time we're done! They set a tentative discharge date of April 20th! All this will depend on how he does obviously. Seems like April 20th is very far away, but really thats only 19 days so he's got some work to do! He physically seems to be doing wonderful, so please pray that his brain starts healing just as well! I think this will probably be the last thing to come around, but it has to be frustrating to feel ok, but not know that your brain is a little behind! I finally got to pose with my bro today! It's going up in a frame! Thanks for all your continued support and prayers!!

Dad spent the night last night. Said Adam slept pretty well. Tried getting out of bed around 3 and took a little spill, but didn't bump anything so that was good. Went back to bed after that, then around 7 they came in and got his breakfast order and then Occupational therapy (OT) got him up and evaluated him getting washed up in the bathroom. By the time 10 am rolled around, he was tired and fell asleep sitting up in the chair. This afternoon OT worked on loosening up his shoulder a bit and did some exercises for that. Speech therapy (ST) worked with him, most of the things he did well, but had a hard time remembering things. She also had him do some basic math (addition and subtraction) and he did really really well. She said that looking at the evaluation that they did in STICU and where he's at now, he's definitely improving! So the long road ahead continues! Physical therapy (PT) worked with him and walked him around the unit several times today. Worked on some balance exercises because he's definitely a little unsteady! Sadie's headed up for a visit this evening with Papaw and Mamaw. I'll head home then and let them hang out and sit with Adam. He seems to be less restless today than in earlier days. He really, really wants Pizza Hut right now, so Mom and Dad are making an impromptu stop! I'm sure I'll have more later and when I get home I'll post a picture!
