Better late than never!

Yesterday was a great day for Adam. He was able to learn a few of the things he needs to work on from his therapists. They say his audio and visual memory is good, it's the reading and remembering that he has some issues with. They said his balance is great and that his shoulder is coming around! Today however, his shoulder was really sore, but I think that's to be expected! And because he's doing so well, he gets the evenings off to go out with Dad and Mom and Dewayne. Last night they went to Chili's for supper. I just got off the phone with Adam a few minutes ago and he was at Dad's hotel room downloading iTunes onto his phone. They had went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. He said that he could stay out on Friday's until 11pm, but was getting tired and was close to wanting to get back to the "commune" as he calls it! Saturdays he can be out from 10a-11p and then on Sundays from 10a-10p. Then during the week I think it's from after therapy until 10p. The Cub's are playing the Braves next week so I told him he needs to take in a game while he's there. He said Dad was already on top of it. Things seem to be looking up on a more regular basis for him. They gave an estimated date of release, but he's hoping that he'll be out before that. He said that one of his therapists said that it can be moved up depending on how well he progresses but it should never move back! So overall he's doing very well. At 3:30 in the morning, it'll be 6 weeks. It's absolutely amazing to see how well he's done in just this short amount of time. People say it's crazy that it's been that long already, just doesn't seem like it. To us, it seems like the fastest and slowest 6 weeks of our lives...is that possible?! Keep saying those prayers and he'll be back before we all know it! Tomorrow if the weather permits he said they might go to a fair in downtown Atlanta. Will try to keep everyone better updated over the weekend, I was slacking yesterday!!! But it was a much needed slacking! :-)

Another day filled with therapy for Adam. Dad, Mom and Dewayne joined him for lunch today and then tonight went to Fat Matt's with the group. It's a local restaurant that has ribs and BBQ. Dad said it was pretty good. Adam didn't have a lot to say about the type of therapies he did today though. Dad said they are still working on improving his memory and thinking. Dad did say though that his balance is great and his shoulder seems to be a little better. So he's progressing! Tomorrow Dad, Mom and Dewayne have to the be there at 9am to go through therapy with him! I think that will be good to see. It's been a very different experience since he's been there because we really haven't been able to see what he's doing and how he's progressing. When we were at Parkview, we saw his day to day therapies which helped us to see his progress. Since being there, we really haven't seen that side of it, so hopefully tomorrow will help! Keep praying that he stays strong and keeps progressing! I spent the evening with his little Sadie Cakes and he got to talk with her for just a bit. She kept saying "Daddy's House." I think she misses it there and I know Adam does. Can't wait for him to get back here with his Sadie!
Such a wonderful photo of Adam...think he could be a poster child for the Shepherd Center!!! And look at his scar...looking good!

Talked with Adam today at lunch time. He had Taco Bell again! He seemed to be in good spirits. Said that he played Skip-Bo for one of his therapies today. He also had a therapy where they asked what each of them would do in a certain situation and basically had to reason how to resolve conflict. He had a therapy he wasn't sure about after lunch and unfortunately I didn't get to chat with him again, so I have no idea what it was. He said his last therapy of the day was physical therapy. His shoulder is bothering him a bit more today. He said it was because they really worked it yesterday. I told him to keep on that Tylenol (I'm a nurse, can you tell!!). He did say that he knows that his shoulder has issues due to the injury so he just has to slow down and go easy with it. He also said he has to slow down with his thoughts too, and he does fine. I told him that it's just natural for him to be a busy buddy and fast at things. He's always been like that! Mom and Dewayne made it safely around 8pm tonight to Atlanta. Didn't get there in time to see Adam, but will go see him for lunch and dinner tomorrow. Adam said a few new people showed up down there to get rehab. Which is probably nice because over the weekend I think there may have been 3 of them there...it was a ghost town, other than the workers! Alright, more pics from Dad (aka the paparazzi)!

A quick post...talked to Dad late last night and he said that Adam's day was pretty good. Said he's frustrated with being there, and when he answers something wrong, he'll say "Now they are just going to keep me longer since I answered it wrong!" Pray for his patience with the program! Pray for our patience too! Mom and Dewayne are on their way down today to spend the rest of the week with him and Dad. I will post more later when I get to actually chat with Adam over his lunch break! Thanks for all the continued prayers and for all the help. A special thanks to The Sievers' Family who will be helping me with the critters while Mom is out! Thanks again! Hopefully I'll get some pictures from Dad today to share with you all!

Movie Day...

We headed over to the center about 10 o'clock this morning. We found Adam still in bed, but awake. Biz and I said goodbye about 10:30 and Adam got into the shower. Dad went and grabbed him some Steak N' Shake and then him and Dad went to see "Date Night" with the group. Adam said it was good, not great. But it was time away :-) He said he had a good day and is starting to feel like himself and he's ready to come home! Dad and him had pizza with the group tonight and Dad said that Adam is starting to converse with a few of the other people at the center as well. Dad left him about 7pm tonight. They both had laundry to do, so Adam was going to start his and Dad was going back to the hotel to do his as well! Adam looks good. His short term memory is really improving. He text me about 8pm tonight to ask if I was home yet...so he knows and it's coming. I think he was finally able to get some sleep this weekend and that helped as well! He really is doing good, so I just hope that helps him get home faster. I know I'm ready for him and Dad to both be in the state of Indiana again!!! Thank you Biz for being the most amazing best friend and taking a road trip with me! You are wonderful! Thank all of the rest of you for your continued prayers and thoughts! And finally, some pictures from the weekend!

Adam and Dad this morning

A very down day...

Today Adam didn't have any therapy. We got there around 10 this morning, he was up eating breakfast at the kitchen table. We brought him some extra goodies...a Starbuck's muffin and a vanilla bean drink. Biz and I hung out for a while, then we hit up the outlet mall for the afternoon. Was able to get Sadie some summer clothes so that Adam will be set when he gets back to Indiana. Dad said him and Adam just watched TV this afternoon, even took a nap in the chair. We got back just in time to bring Dad some dinner. Adam had dinner brought in from a Chinese restaurant. He had Kung Pao Chicken. It was pretty good (we all had a bite of it to test it out for him!!! Ha!). I got a movie from Target this afternoon, so after dinner we watched "Law Abiding Citizen." We all enjoyed this action flick (however Biz says that her and I will stick to chick flicks from now on!!!) We also watched the last part of "Four Brothers." We then ran and got him some ice cream from "Brusters." If you think Dairy Queen is good, you should try this place! It's amazing with like 20 different flavors each day. They probably have 60 different flavors though, maybe even more. After we finished the movies and ice cream, Dad, Biz and I headed back to the hotel. It has been great seeing him. I will miss him and Dad bunches when I have to leave tomorrow. I know he's frustrated with having to be here, but he's a fighter and he's a very focused person, so if we can just turn that focus into some major determination, he's golden! He'll be home before he knows it! Alright, I did have a request or two about eating places down here...so those include...Chili's, Applebees, Outback, Panera, Chick Filet, Chipotle, Red Lobster, and the normal fast food places too...and I'm sure there are others, but that's what I could think of right now. Dad got a rental car, so that gives him a chance to get to and from Adam a little more easily! Alright all, I need to post some pictures, but will try to do so tomorrow night after I arrive back at home. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. Also a huge thanks to those that attended the Columbia Township Fire Department breakfast this morning. They were able to get some donations for Adam. Thank you to all who donated and supported the Columbia Township Fire Department!

day #4

Adam had an okay day at therapy. After looking at his schedule tonight, I noticed he has all kinds of therapy. From exercise therapy to physical. They definitely have a wide variety of what they work on down here. A few of the residence left today, so I think there may only be 3 or 4 left. Biz and I got into Atlanta about 2 o'clock this afternoon, after fighting ATL traffic...these people drive like they are crazy. You either butt your way in and go, or get run over!! We finally made our way over to see Adam around 5. We took him food from Five Guys Burgers and Fries. The fries were really good and Adam really enjoyed them! Then he took us on a tour of his "Crib." It's actually a nice little facility. The first level consists of a kitchen area, game room area, and a TV room. The upstairs is the sleeping area and Adam has a room with two beds, one twin and one double. He sleeps in the double. There is also a TV area upstairs too. The group watched the Blind Side tonight, but we went downstairs and watched COPS, to give Adam some extra training!!! Ha! Adam was pretty tired tonight. He just hasn't been sleeping well. I hope that since he doesn't have any therapy this weekend, that he'll actually get a chance to sleep in a bit. He REALLY doesn't want to be here. I think it's hard for him to be away from everything, his normal everything. He'll for sure be ready to come home when it's time. He's walking better though, seems pretty much stable. I think that his face/scars looks lots better and even his memory is coming along. His case worker today said that his "assistants" will no longer have to be in the room with him at all times, they just have to remain outside the door just in case he needs something. Hopefully by next week he'll lose them altogether! Alright, well I'll post some pictures in the morning. For now it's off to bed. We're going to go visit Adam in the morning, then Biz and I are going to find an outlet mall for a bit then head back to spend the rest of the evening with Adam. Keep praying for Adam's patience with this situation!

day #3 at shepherds pathways

A note from dad...

The day was sunny and warm! You could break a sweat today!

His breakfast consisted of Fruit Loops, a granola bar and mountain dew. Ah! Life is good!

Adam and I sat outside for lunch today. He enjoyed the warmth of the sun and was more talkative today! He had ARBY’s and two Dunkin Donuts and a soda. Not a scrap of food left!

Adam seems to have a more positive attitude today, but still questions his therapists…but there is nothing wrong with that!

He told me that he rode a stationary bike today in therapy and racked up 1.3 miles. He was proud of that! He said it felt good! He did several heal to toe exercises. He told me that he did well in the “mat” class on mobility and his word/picture associations went very well! He went shopping this afternoon at the grocery to get food for next week’s breakfast and lunch. Purchases did included Mountain Dew and believe it or not fruit!

One of his therapists told him they would try and schedule swimming for him next week. He said he was looking forward to that! It sounds like Dad is going to attend some classes with him next week also...

Our evening together consisted of joining the group for dinner and spending some father and son time together. We sat outside enjoying the warm weather while he did his laundry. We finished the evening watching TV.

If you check out yesterdays post, you will also see a post from Adam under comments! So exciting to see. Biz and I landed in Knoxville, TN about 12:30am last night. The drive went very smoothly, pretty consistent traffic, but no traffic jams! We'll finish the rest this morning after we get moving!

Again everyone, thank you for your continued prayers and support for Adam and our family. The support has been overwhelming (but a good overwhelming). I just can't help but think that our community is absolutely one of the best around! Can't wait to update you all on what everything is like when I get there today!

First day of rehab...again!

So today was technically Adam's first day of rehab. His day started with occupational therapy. Adam said they asked him a bunch of questions about what he likes to do, where he likes to go, etc. He also had some physical therapy and I believe some speech therapy. Since Dad doesn't get to go through therapy with him, it's kind of hard to know what all he does unless he tells us. Dad was able to eat lunch with him though. They did go to Chili's tonight for dinner. Adam had a big 'ole hamburger! He said it was soooo good! Tomorrow is their market night so they will be taking them off campus to the market to get his groceries for the week. He also met with a psychologist today. That will also be part of his program there. I know he's ready to come home, but he will in due time! It's really hard to hear him say that, but we know in our hearts he's in the right place. I pray with all my heart that this place will help him get back to 100%, maybe even 110%. He misses his Sadie dearly and I know that she brings comfort to him. So continue to pray everyone! His contact information is as below. He can have visitors from 11:30-12:20 for lunch during the week and then after 5pm on the weekdays. On the weekends he can have visitors after 10am. I know a few of you have mentioned going down to visit. If you plan to do so, please let dad know you are coming. He has outtings throughout the week and on the weekends and if they know you are coming, you can tag along for those outtings. You will have to pay your way, but they allow you to be involved!
Mr. Adam Schrader
Shepherd Pathways
1942 Clairmont Road
Decatur, GA 30033
I'm headed down tomorrow and will arrive on Friday! Can't wait to be able to see where he's staying and what this place is like. Updates to come! Thanks all!
A note from Dad...
The day started with a light breakfast at the hotel.
I was picked up by Enterprise and taken to their car lot to rent my car. I am now driving a Chevrolet, Oveo. it’s a small car, and gets me there.
You can get lost and turned around easily here. The streets go every direction and you can loose your sense of direction.
Had lunch with Adam today 11:30 to 12:20. Took him some Taco Bell. He was still complaining about what and how they are doing his therapy….he does however, talk about his the people in his group and has met a afro-american who is from Gary, Indiana. He has been here for 2 months and is leaving Friday and that started another conversation…. It was time for his next class and he got up and went with the group, then called me and said sorry I walked away from you! He says some of his therapists are nice and there are some that he is not to fond of already.
And pictures...

Off to Georgia!

We arrived at the hospital today shortly after 6am to have one last breakfast with him and see him off to Atlanta! He was in the shower when we get there and then we went down to the cafeteria to eat. When we got back up to the room, I had to head to work, but Dad, Mom and Adam finished getting ready and they came with a stretcher (Adam was none to pleased!) and strapped him in and away they went. They said it was a small plane and Adam said it was a bumpy ride! When they arrived in Atlanta they started right away with meeting with nurses, case managers, and therapists. Dad and Adam had lunch in Adam's apartment like kitchen. It was ham and cheese for Dad and Peanut Butter and Jelly for Adam! He'll get $30 a week to buy groceries with and he'll have to prepare his own breakfast and lunch eat day. They will take him to the store every Thursday! Supper will be as a group. Tomorrow night they are taking them to Chili's. Adam wasn't too pleased tonight. He has an assistant that stays with him around the clock until they evaluate his abilities. He didn't really care for someone following him around! Ha! I told him it wouldn't be forever! Not to mention, he wasn't really being followed around because his assistant fell asleep on the other bed in his room and was snoring! Ha! Adam did say his bed was bigger there, and wasn't a hospital bed at all, so maybe he'll be getting a little more sleep! I can't wait to see what this place is like! I'm heading down on Thursday and getting there Friday! Thank you all for all the thoughts and prayers. It's daily that I get comments and questions about how he's doing. People are praying, and there is one reason he's alive...that's because of God! It's also because of all the great people that helped rescue him the night of his accident and because of people like all of you who are praying for him! We'll continue to keep you posted! Thanks! Oh and I'm waiting on an email with Adam's contact information while he's there. I've had a few requests for that information and also if you want to send anything down for us to give to him, I'll be leaving Thursday and Mom is going down next week.
This a picture prior to departure!

Friends...

Many thanks to all of you who made it up to see Adam today! I wish I had the list of names, because it was very much appreciated! He really seemed like himself tonight joking around having a good time with all of you! You all are what makes this easier for him and easier for us! Your support has been amazing! Adam had his independence day today. Which basically meant that he had to do certain tasks with certain goals and he met them all! Which is WONDERFUL! But we do have a few things to work on. So Dad and Adam will leave Parkview Hospital tomorrow morning at 8am and board a flight at the Fort Wayne Airport. They will fly non-stop to Atlanta, GA where Adam's evaluation will start to find out what he needs and what they are going to do to help him! He will have a full time assistant at first until they evaluate him and decide whether that's needed or not. They want him there by 11am...so I'm sure they have all kinds of fun planned for him! Will keep everyone updated through Dad! Continue to send prayers up for him! Also pray for Dad, as he's the only one going to be down there full time for now! Pray that he's able to catch up on a little rest that we've neglected over the last 4 weeks! With that said, pray for rest for all of us! Including Adam! Again, thank you all for every large or small thing you have done for us. For visiting Adam and our family. For just being wonderful family, friends, and community members! Thank you also to the Parkview Hospital team, whether it be in STICU or on the rehab floor, you all were wonderful and we couldn't have asked for a better experience! Thank you!

Nearing an end and a beginning...

So another long Sunday for Adam, as he didn't have any therapy today. Jamie and Derrick Ness spent the morning with him and entertained him! When I called around lunch time there were blizzards involved!!! Adam had quite a few visitors! I'm glad, as it keeps him busy! This afternoon he got a visit from Luke (his dog) and was able to go for a walk with his friend Ashley! He also got to go down to STICU (where his journey began at Parkview) and meet and say hi to the nurses that took care of him. They were glad to see he was doing well! They said that Shepherd's is the best! Great to hear...because he has Miss Sadie cakes to come home to! He's doing well! Today I told someone, we couldn't ask for much more. He has done really great and I know it's a miracle that he's even alive! So I'll keep praying for those miracles and pray that Shepherd's is the place it can happen! If you haven't gotten a chance to say bye to Adam before he leaves, we hope you can make it up Monday! Tuesday is an end for Adam at Parkview, but a whole new beginning for him as well. Keep praying! It's working! Enjoy today's pictures!

Officially 4 weeks!

Well today is the official 4 week mark! WOW! How time flies! If the next four weeks go as quickly as the last, Adam will be out in no time! Adam had three sessions of therapy this morning and that was it. He did really well with them, but complained this afternoon that he was really sore and stiff. He said his left shoulder is really stiff, but they did a x-ray on Thursday and it showed that it was healing. I think he'll probably always have some pain related to that shoulder for a long while, if not a lifetime. But the doctor said if it continued to bother him that they would think about surgery at a later date, so it'll just depend on how it feels to him. He had quite a few visitors this afternoon, which was good for him. He's bored and wants to go home, says he'll mow any one's lawn as long as he can leave. Sadie and I had girls morning this morning and then she spent the afternoon with dad. She even took a nap on his bed! He's really going to miss her while he's gone. I hope that she doesn't forget how awesome of a father he is while he's gone. Just wanted to say thank you to the people of our community once again. I saw someone tonight that said that she'd been following the blog and was praying for him. I'm sorry I didn't catch your name, but thank you from the bottom of my heart! This community has been so great to us, and we will never forget what you've done for us!
Sadie's Big Day with Grace:

A little tired after the big morning...

Showing Daddy how to put those shoes on and another one of Adam...

Another late one!

Another entry just a tad late! Adam had another great Friday. Dewayne stayed with him all day again and Jake joined in some of the therapy as well. Adam got to go to Wal-mart and do some shopping, then they took him out for lunch. He went to Taco Bell. Yesterday he said "I know it's crazy but Taco Bell tasted so good!" Ha! He also told us that at first he was the only one that was going to get anything, and then once everyone got there, they all decided to get Taco Bell. He thought that was pretty funny! Yesterday during PT he jogged around the unit. Dewayne said it was a slow jog but he did very well. He also did some kind of exercise where he had to do leaps. He told us that he was a little unsteady/wobbly on the landing! I think he's getting more used to the fact that he's going to Atlanta. Still would rather go home but doesn't seem so bothered that he has to go to Atlanta now. When I got up to the hospital after work, he wanted to go for a walk around the hospital. So we did. He showed me the hill that they had him walking up. I was impressed at the steepness of this hill. After that, Sadie came with Mom and Dad and he got to spend the evening with Sadie. He enjoyed having her there and wanted to know when I'd bring her back. So Sadie cakes and I are going to have a girl's morning with a friend of mine and her daughter then we're going to visit and spend time with Adam. Adam had quite a few visitors last night. Thanks to all that came up, he enjoys getting to see everyone! He has three sessions of therapy this morning and then is done until Monday. He'll be done by 10:30 this morning. Pictures to follow!

Nearing 4 weeks...

I cannot even believe that we are nearing the 4 week mark! It's been an unexpected, emotional, and miraculous journey up to this point. I am so very thankful for where Adam has come in just 4 weeks. And I'm so excited to see where Shepherd's Center will take him in the next few weeks. As the days grow closer for him to go, I'm sad, but glad all the same. He's going to get some of the best treatment that this country has to offer and I'm so grateful for this opportunity for him. Even if he doesn't understand all of it yet. Today we had a family meeting where each group of therapist shared with us his progress and his needed areas of improvement. They each recommended that Shepherd's Center is the absolute best place for him and that he will greatly benefit from being there. He was very frustrated because he felt that we weren't giving him a choice, we weren't telling him anything about his place, etc. So today the occupational therapist took him to the computer and went through the website with him so that he could see where he's going. He also wants to get out of the hospital, so tomorrow, he'll be going with one of the therapists to the store and out to eat. Even though he really just wants to spend his time going home and sitting on his couch, I think this will be a great chance for him to get out of the walls of the hospital for a while. We went up and looked at the Samaritan today. Pictures to follow. This evening, he spent some time with Sadie and then we went outside and sat by the fountain at Parkview that was just filled with water today. It was such a relaxing and beautiful evening. Adam got to visit with Ryan, his daughter Kelsey, and Rodney tonight. He enjoyed his time with the two of them. He really is doing wonderful. He's walking to the majority of his destinations, reasoning (in his stubborn way) and continues to improve his memory little by little. Thank you all for keeping us in your prayers. Especially pray that this weekend isn't too hard on him. He's ready to get out and I hope that he has lots of visitors to occupy his time. Thanks to everyone for all the time you have committed to him and to our family. You'll never know how much it means to us!

A BIG DAY!

Today was a good day for Adam. Dad and Jake and Dewayne spent the day going through most of his therapy. Mom and Jodi spent the evening with him then. Adam said tonight that he got to make biscuits today!! However, no one got to taste them, so I'm not sure if they really tasted that good! Ha! They say that Adam has actually been sleeping pretty good the last few nights! Today the doctor came in and told Adam that he would be going to Atlanta, Georgia to the Shepherd Center for additional rehab. They specialize in brain injury. This center will allow him to drive, swim, and actually go out into the community and figure out how to live as an adult. I know he thinks that he can do that already, but he has a bit of a ways to go. He will have a variety of therapies and they are more specific to the things he likes. He'll have therapy from 8a-2p daily and then they have activities for him in the evening. He'll live in a dormitory type setting with supervision. The first day the family will be able to go through therapy with him and after that, they do not suggest family participate. Dad and him will be flying down on the morning of Tuesday, April 20th. They will fly via air ambulance. The rest of us may visit on weekends and here and there, but Dad will be staying with him while he's there. He is a bit upset about having to go because he is ready to go home. While this was a very difficult decision to make, we believe this is the absolute best thing for him. This will hopefully get him functioning on his own. He'll for sure be ready to come home after all this. I will be getting a journal to send with Adam that will allow for everyone to write him well wishes. We'll give him this after he gets to Atlanta. So with all this said, if you'd like to see Adam and spend sometime with him, please make sure to get up there before Tuesday morning! He could be gone up to 6 to 8 weeks. It will all depend on his progress! Pray that he continue to improve and that he has patience with the fact that he can't come home yet. Pray also for his daughter, Sadie, and him as it will be hard on the both of them that Adam will be gone and won't be able to see each other for a while. Pray for safe travel. And please pray for our family. It is going to be really hard not to see him and see his daily progress. Dad will be our eyes! I'll just provide the commentary!! You all have been so faithful in praying for us and we appreciate it! Thanks for everything that everyone has done! The support of this community, Adam's friends and family, and even those we don't know have been wonderful! Thank you!A fresh hair cut and shave never hurt anyone, looking good!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Tasha and Tony...thank you for letting us use your Wii! Not only does it help Adam keep busy it also helps our whole family keep busy! Ha! Adam had another good day of therapy this morning. Dad spent the morning and afternoon going through therapy with him. The speech therapist said he was doing really well. He was answering math questions by just spitting them out and she told him she hadn't even finished doing the questions yet herself! So things are coming along. He could pick Miss Sadie Cakes up tonight without getting off balance! These are all exciting things! He still wants to leave and come home. But in due time my dear brother, in due time! Pheobe (a friend of Mom's) brought us food to the hospital tonight. Comfort food: chicken and noodles...yummm! Thanks Pheobe it tasted great and Adam ate a big ole' portion too! Another good day under our belts, but a few more to go! Keep praying for his patience with being there! It's good for him, even if he doesn't know it yet! Thanks again to all the visitors that have taken the time to come over and see Adam! We appreciate it and he does too! And thanks for the prayers too, it's what has gotten us this far!

Lunges, Squats and Hills!

Lunges, Squats and Hills were on Adam's agenda today! He did a lot of stretching with PT and worked on squatting and doing lunges! Means his balance is getting better! Woohoo! He walked around Parkview today and did the hill behind the hospital. Dewayne was over with him again today so that Mom and Dad could get some work done! Dewayne, thank you for all the time you are spending with Adam! We feel so blessed to have such a great family friend! I know Adam enjoys having you there as well! It's always wonderful to have a friendly face who is a doctor that you can talk to. On the first day Adam came in, Dr. White (a cardiologist I work with and who I used to baby sit for) came by the hospital to check on Adam and our family. Then today while I was at work, I find out that his wife was a speech therapist (a director) for a while. He told me to call if we had any questions. It's amazing how God puts people in your life for certain reasons. The White's have always been wonderful and I know that the day of the accident it was SO great to see a familiar face. So thanks Dr. White for giving me some piece of mind the first day and again today! Adam continues to improve and we are so very thankful and grateful for that! Thanks again to all who pray for him daily and keep him in your thoughts! He still has a long road ahead, but I know we can face it with all the prayers that are lifting not only Adam up, but our family as well! Thank you!

And to end the day...my favorite picture of Adam yet!
With his wonderful therapist, Amy.

Adam continues to amaze me day by day! He's doing so well and I know he's bored out of his mind at the hospital, but he'll be out of there before he knows it. He's just so lucky to be alive and still be himself! Today started at about 3:30am for Adam when he was still up and at it! The family all received texts saying "please come get me." And I'm pretty sure that family extends to quite a few friends as well! He finally went to sleep about 4am and Mom spent the morning and early afternoon with him. Then the rest of us showed up and celebrated Mom's birthday with some Buffalo Wings and Ribs and some fruit and cake. Adam had lots of visitors today which was good for him! The more the better, I think it keeps him busy and occupied! He was tired by 7:30-8pm and he got a shower and then layed down. Dad left about 9:30pm and he was still awake, but laying down. Thank you all for the blessings of friendship and of your prayers! It humbles me everyday to know that Adam is here, mostly himself, and that his recovery has been so quick. It's crazy to think that he may be discharged 31 days after his accident. That is NOTHING short of a miracle! Keep praying that he continues to improve and will be ready to go by his tentative discharge date of April 20th. If not, we may have a hard time getting him to stay!!! And last but not least for the day...Happy Birthday Mom!

Today was a very uneventful day today for Adam. But I think it was a nice change for him! He had one session of speech therapy this morning and was done for the day. He's starting to complain that the therapies are just not challenging enough for him! Guess it's time to come home! Ha! He's walking great! His memory is still a bit iffy but it's coming! I took him a "razzle" (just like a blizzard but from Zestos) this afternoon. He ate that right up and then went and got him a cheeseburger! Jake came over with one of his friends, Mike Poiry and the four of us played a round of marbles this evening! It was pretty fun! And we all had blizzards this time around! I think it kept Adam entertained for the evening. Adam and I played a round of bowling on the Wii and then later in the evening he just wanted to watch Jake and I play, but it was a good time. He's STILL ready to come home, but I'm sure I would be too. He told Jake and I he'd love us forever if we took him home tonight. And I asked if he'd hate us forever if we didn't. He replied yes! Oh brother! I really hope that we can have him out of there in 9 days. I'm sure we'll never see him so happy! Enjoy the pictures!

An update from yesterday (just a little late!)! He had a really good day of therapy yesterday. Dewayne went through therapy and spent the day with him. Adam seems to be getting a LOT more independent and is sick of the nurses watching him use the bathroom! Ha! He really is getting much more steady and balanced with his walking though and is doing such a wonderful job. His spirits seemed to be better yesterday (must have been all those prayers)! He's still ready to go home. He told us we could lock him in his room for 3 days if we took him home, as long as he was at home. He's starting to think he's always right (and he'll admit that it's just how it is!). Tony and Tasha brought over their Wii so that he could have it in his room to play so we'll be getting lots of use out of that I'm sure. Thanks Tony & Tasha! We appreciate it! And last night Keith and Angie visited and Adam was up to no good already. He must be feeling better because he was cracking jokes and making fun just like always! It was good to see him being himself and actually laughing and joking around! Yesterday during the day, Doug Reed stopped by and saw Adam and explained everything that happened the night of the accident and about all the people that came to help. Then they went out onto the Samaritan landing pad and Adam got to look inside the helicopter and meet the pilot. Pictures were taken, but I need to get them emailed to me still, so I'll try to post those later today! They said that next Thursday that we can go out again and get some more pictures. What an amazing job everyone did the night of Adam's accident! It's so amazing to know the number of people that were there to help! Again, thank you! Have a wonderful Saturday!

A quick note tonight!

Just a quick note tonight as I'm tired! Adam had a good day of therapy again. Jake spent the day with him today. He got to play the Wii as one of his therapies today. It's supposed to help with his coordination and balance. He must be feeling better because he was a "bit" bullheaded today! He says he's fine and while he looks great and is moving much better, he has so much more to work on. But he doesn't think so! So hopefully today was just a bump in the road on our long journey! I pray that tomorrow his spirits will be a bit higher and that maybe we can get him to understand that he may feel fine, but he's not completely fine yet! I know he's ready to go home and I know that it has to be REALLY hard to be there all day, every day, but I also know that I want him back to some kind of normalcy, so he's staying! Keep praying for him that he might understand that he's not quite healed yet! I'm leaving you with pictures from today of the present Tony brought over for Sadie. She loved it by the way! And thanks to Joel and Shannon for the evening dinner...it was yummy! We're getting spoiled with all this wonderful food!

Adam wasn't too rested when Jake and I got there this morning. He said that the nurses had been having a dance party in the hallway at 4 am and he couldn't sleep! He was sitting up in his bed waiting for us to get there. His "cage" was unzipped, imagine that! Somehow he managed to figure out how to unzip himself from the inside! But he stayed in the "cage" and didn't get out unless he used his call button. They said if he continues with that, they may be able to get rid of the cage and get him a normal bed. He did a good job with his therapy today and made it up and down the stairs 3 times! His balance is pretty good now, unless he's tired then it's not so great. But it's improving! His memory is coming, slowly but surely. He was pretty tired today and I think that hindered his speech therapy. His shoulder is bothering him a bit, but is able to work it during occupational therapy. They will let the ortho doctor know at the end of the week how his shoulder is doing and they will re-evaluate it next week. He had lots of visitors today which was good for him. The therapists keep saying that he's a popular guy because everytime they come into the room, he's got a new visitor! A special thanks goes out to Tony and Russ and all of the crew at Depuy for their support for Adam during this time. It's so wonderful to know that Adam has an employer and so many fellow employees that are behind him supporting him and lifting him up in both their thoughts and prayers! Adam misses work and I know that it really helped that Tony and Russ came to visit. He's been worried about not being at work all week. So thank you two for making the trip to see him. I could see in his eyes how excited he was to see you two and how much it meant to him. Again today, I was humbled by the outpouring of support and love that has been shown to not only Adam, but our entire family. Thank you all from the bottom of all our hearts for absolutely EVERYTHING! You will never know how much everything has meant to us during this time.

Oh, yet another day! He's ready to come home, I'm pretty sure I've heard that every time I talked to him today! Dewayne spent the day with him, helping him go through his therapy! Adam had to look up stuff in the phone book for his ST today. He got to play some cornhole with his physical therapists today as well! And he did stairs today too! I was told that the stairs wiped him! But that's good! I got two phone calls tonight from him. One early on asking for me to bring a computer with me tomorrow so he can get on the Internet. And the second one was to ask what time I was coming tomorrow. He just wanted to let me know when his therapy was and that I could go to therapy with him if I wanted. He did say I didn't have to come though if I didn't want to! Ha! So funny. I assured him that I'd be there and I'd bring the computer! He's doing well. One of the therapists said that if he continues doing this well he might be able to get out earlier than the 20th. You better believe he's stubborn enough to make that happen! Thank you Dewayne for spending the day with him. We appreciate your time! Thanks to everyone else that has been following him and praying for him throughout his journey this far!
